The Invisible Practice
In a collaboration with VibraFusionLab The Invisible Practice will be exploring the use of vibration in place of sound or music and immersing ourselves in movement development and creation, which will be influenced by ASL poetry and contemporary dance. Vibration replaces the soundscape and is felt by performers and audience through a range of vibrotactile systems provided through VibraFusionLab. The performance space will include substances that are also responsive to the vibrations and able to be manipulated by the performer independent from the technology (for example, sand, haze, fabric, water etc). Thus, a vibration score will be both felt by the audience and performer, and seen through the activation of the materials on stage.
The Invisible Practice collective members include Ainsley Hiilyard, Connor Yuzwenko-Martin, David Bobier, Jim Ruxton, and Chris Dodd. Our involvement and roles are detailed later in the application. Throughout a ten-week research/rehearsal process our collective work will culminate in a half length movement piece that will be presented at SOUND OFF, Canada’s Deaf Arts Festival, in March of 2023.
